Established in 2003, our Rescue Centre has helped over 5,000 dogs find loving homes.

We cover the whole of Dumfries and Galloway, taking in stray and surrendered dogs and matching them with new homes. When space permits, we take in dogs from pounds in England and from Northern Ireland to save them from destruction. All dogs in our care are vaccinated, microchipped, neutered (or leave with a voucher), and health-checked. We conduct home visits wherever possible and provide full post-adoption support.

We are proud that so many lives have been enriched by the companionship of our dogs. Our reach extends beyond Dumfries and Galloway, and we have rehomed dogs from as far afield as Orkney to Dorset!

  Our community

We work with our local council to care for stray dogs while they wait to be reclaimed by their owners. If they are not claimed, we rehome them. We are licensed by the local authority for the care of dogs.

Alongside this, we take in welfare cases, on referral from our local social services department and other agencies. This means that we provide temporary care for pets during a time of personal difficulty for their owners. We microchip all our rehomed dogs and provide this service for others.

  History

The centre was originally opened in March 2003, taking over from a separate rescue kennels charity. With strong support of locals, the local media and residents of Dumfries and Galloway, sufficient funds were raised to keep a rehoming facility in the region. A registered charity was set up (SCO31991) and later the organisation became a company limited by guarantee.

  Our team

As if looking after and rehoming dogs, running the centre and fundraising wasn’t enough, our wonderful team also like to tell others what they do by visiting local organisations and schools. Groups of college students, schools and other interested people arrange to visit us too!

  A personal service

We are proud to serve both our human and canine friends in Dumfries and Galloway. This means we can offer a personal service, responding to individual needs. We believe this sets us apart from nationally based organisations. We are proud to have the quality of our service recognised by the Association of Dogs and Cats' Homes.
